Online Payments (Stripe)
Clients pay invoices by card or bank debit - from a link or their portal.

Let clients pay invoices online - by card or bank direct debit - from a payment link you send, or straight from their client portal. The money settles into your own Stripe account; it never passes through TowConnect.
Getting paid
- Payment link - on any unpaid invoice, click Payment link: it's copied to your clipboard and (if your email is connected) emailed to the client with a branded payment request
- Client portal - clients with portal access see a Pay now button on their unpaid invoices
- The pay page shows your business name, the invoice number and the exact amount - clients can't change it
What happens after they pay
- Cards - the invoice flips to paid within moments of the client finishing checkout
- Bank direct debit - banks take 2–4 business days to clear; the payer's pay page and portal show the payment as on its way, and the invoice flips automatically when it clears (you're notified if it bounces)
- You get a bell notification either way, and if Xero is connected the payment flows straight into your books
- The client gets their receipt - the same email and text as when you mark an invoice paid yourself, once per payment, if their email or mobile is on file. It's noted on the invoice's activity, including if a send failed
Good to know
Fees are between you and Stripe; direct debit is cheaper and capped per transaction (Stripe's current prices: stripe.com/au/pricing). From 1 October 2026, card surcharges on eftpos, Mastercard and Visa payments are not allowed in Australia, so a client paying by one of those cards pays the invoice price.
